Exclusive Interview with TYLERDURDAN*
As we listen tylerdurdan*’s music, we’re not just hearing a new album – we’re experiencing the future of music production. Check out the exclusive Interview below:
1. Your roots can often shape your journey. Can you share a story or moment from your early life that had a significant impact on your path into music?
TYLERDURDAN*: I grew up listening to Italian music, the kind my parents used to listen to. Lucio Battisti, Franco Battiato, and Italian music from the 70s and 80s in general. Then, around 1994, when I was 11, I started discovering American rap, which was just beginning to make its mark, as well as Italian protest music like the one made by 99 Posse and the committed songwriting of Fabrizio de Andrè and Francesco Guccini. Those were eye-opening moments that made me realize there was more to music than just light pop. There was a whole world out there to discover
2. Did your musical journey begin with formal training, or was it more of a personal exploration? How has that shaped your unique approach to your craft?
TYLERDURDAN*: Technically, my musical journey started just 4 months ago, in June 2024, when I began using generative AI software to create voices and music for my lyrics. It was love at first sight. In less than a month, I released ‘Buffet,’ the first rap album created with generative AI software, which brought me recognition from around the world and allowed me to sign with a traditional record label, Visory Records. I’m not a musician, I can’t play anything at all, but I’ve been writing professionally for over 15 years. So, I used my copywriting skills to break down the barrier that prevented me from producing music, not being a musician. It’s an incredible feeling of freedom, I recommend everyone try it.
3. Who were some of the most influential figures in your early musical life, and how did they inspire your sound? Also, what’s the story behind choosing the name ‘TYLERDURDAN*’?
TYLERDURDAN*: To launch my music project, tylerdurdan*, given the chance to choose from all genres, I decided to go with rap due to its affinity with my work as a street photographer. Rap and street photography are the same thing, expressive ways of communicating the reality around us. In this, both precursors like Notorious B.I.G. and Tupac, and contemporary artists like Kendrick Lamar and Kanye West have been my teachers. The name tylerdurdan* comes from an elective affinity with the character from Fight Club, Tyler Durden. I believe the metaphor of the split personality is particularly significant in the times we live in, where everyone has different personalities, one for each social media platform, plus the one for real life, which is in turn divided between family, work, and friends.
4. What do you believe sets your music apart? How would you describe your sound to someone discovering you for the first time, and what emotions or experiences do you hope to evoke in your listeners?
TYLERDURDAN*: First and foremost, it’s important to understand that the voice you’re hearing doesn’t actually exist. And nobody technically played those instruments. Instead, you should know that someone, me, Raffaele Annunziata, wrote these lyrics and created that sound using generative AI software. Knowing this can be an alienating experience, different from the usual. If you don’t know what’s behind it, you might fall into the trap I’m trying to set for my unsuspecting listeners. And if you like my music, regardless of how it was made? If you agree with the words you’ve heard, would you care about the way they were generated? By addressing sensitive and political themes, I hope for an active listening experience, different from the usual.
5. For most artists, originality is first preceded by a phase of learning and, often, emulating others. What was this like for you? How would you describe your own development as an artist and music maker, and the transition towards your own style, which is known as HIPHOP?
TYLERDURDAN*: I believe that the concept of invention is a 19th-century notion that has long been surpassed. Everything draws inspiration from everything else, in graphics, as well as in design or literature. If I write the way I do, it’s because I’ve read Burroughs and Rimbaud, because I’ve seen films by Rossellini and Truffaut, because I’ve listened to the music of Bob Dylan and the Doors. Rap, then, comes naturally. It’s like when they asked Bukowski where his poetry came from. And how do you breathe, he replied.
6. Music often transcends entertainment. What’s your view on the role and function of music as political, cultural, spiritual, and/or social vehicles – and do you try and affront any of these themes in your work, or are you purely interested in music as an expression of technical artistry, personal narrative, and entertainment?
TYLERDURDAN*:  At 41, I’m appalled at how music has lost its power to drive social and political change. The decline of collective consciousness and the dominance of mass culture have, to the delight of the establishment, neutered music’s ability to spread radical ideas. Everything’s become a spectacle, just as Pier Paolo Pasolini predicted in the 70s. This realization has compelled me to use music as a platform for political messages, particularly to end the ongoing genocide in Palestine. This is my sole focus now, even though I have a full-time job and wasn’t involved in music six months ago.
7. Do you feel the rewards of your musical career match the energy and passion you invest in it, or are there different kinds of fulfillment you’re still seeking?
TYLERDURDAN*: I’m not really chasing any particular outcome, except to move even one person’s consciousness after listening to one of my songs
8. Can you walk us through your creative process? From the first spark of an idea to the finished track, what’s the most essential part of your process, and how do collaboration or external influences shape your work?
TYLERDURDAN*: It all begins with a note on my phone. I jot down striking images, words, phrases, and vivid scenes. I then develop these into verses on my phone, usually forming one or two quatrains. Sometimes I add a chorus and then start experimenting with sounds and rhythms using generative AI. The entire process can take anywhere from 10 minutes to two weeks to complete a song.
9. What’s been the most challenging hurdle in either your personal life or music career, and how has it shaped you as an artist?
TYLERDURDAN*: Balancing my time between my job as a Digital Media Specialist at Seed Media Agency, my passion for photography and Napoli Football Club, and raising my 4-year-old daughter, Denise, has made finding time for the Tylerdurdan* project a challenge.
10. On the flip side, what moment or achievement in your career so far has made you feel the proudest, and why? And let’s talk about your latest release and future plans.
TYLERDURDAN*: Self-releasing my first song on Distrokid, transforming a 15-year-old lyric into a full track, was incredibly exciting. Hearing my daughter ask to listen to ‘her’ song was the icing on the cake. Moving forward, I’m aiming to blend more organic elements into the project. My upcoming album, “Primo,” will be mixed and mastered by the renowned producer Max Bertoli. It features a track with a beat by jazz pianist Raffaele Ranieri and another based on a beat by Ginola_. I’m also collaborating with Neapolitan rapper SVAMP and Vesuvian rapper lamaconlospazio. The possibilities of AI in music are endless.
Sway's universe - UK
Italian artist tylerdurdan* has unveiled a new single titled “Present,” which serves as a poignant exploration of the transformative potential of artificial intelligence.
This innovative release signifies a notable shift from conventional music production methods, featuring lyrics composed by a human and music generated entirely by AI.
Folded Waffle - USA
In a bold new chapter for Italian music, tylerdurdan (Raffaele Annunziata) has made waves with the release of “Buffet”, the first-ever Italian rap album produced entirely with generative AI. Known for his deep lyricism and visionary approach, Annunziata, founder of Seed Media Agency, blends his unique voice and lyrics with futuristic soundscapes designed by artificial intelligence, pushing the boundaries of what music can be.
The Future of Music Production with “Buffet”
With every track on “Buffet”, tylerdurdan isn’t just offering music; he’s offering a glimpse into the future of sound creation. The album is a landmark, merging human creativity with AI, and redefining how music is composed and experienced. From complex beats to experimental rhythms, the generative AI behind “Buffet” brings an entirely new dimension to Italian rap, making the album not only innovative but a significant cultural moment in Italian music history.
Single Spotlight: “Present”
Tylerdurdan’s single “Present” is the crown jewel of “Buffet”, blending powerful human storytelling with AI-generated music. The song tackles urgent global issues—conflict, time, and humanity’s evolution—through lyrics that provoke thought, all set to music created entirely by artificial intelligence. “Presente” encapsulates the potential of AI in transforming not just music production, but how we engage with art. Released in collaboration with Visory Records, this track solidifies tylerdurdan as a cultural pioneer, inspiring artists to think beyond traditional methods.
Analyze My Lyrics - USA
Present by TYLERDURDAN* is a sweet and sour observation of the evolution-or lack thereof-of humanity from staunchly critical eyes toward the present and the past. The lyrics, written by a human and complemented with AI-generated music, go deep into our flaws in society, how modern society is paralleling conflicts back in antiquity. In this track, tylerdurdan* realizes that humans always manage to repeat mistakes committed throughout history. Take the example of lines like “All that I had seen almost 100 years ago has repeated” and “Almost everything you had understood has been lost.” This is a compliment from the artist upon a stagnant improvement rate in morality and ethics because of the darker tendencies in humanity: greed, war, ignorance, and so forth continue unabated with the face of technological development.
The song structure, in its various tenses such as “pluperfect” and “future,” reflects on both the passage of time and the timelessness of human folly. Verbs have given a philosophical flavor in complicated use in the lyrics, with each tense representative of humanity’s desire to change yet being caught in errors of the past. For example, the line “The present is indicative of the times that run” shows the frustration of the modern age, in which visible progress does not mask internal stagnation.
This critique is taken further by tylerdurdan* in the second verse, as he refers to humanity as “medieval beasts” and “hamsters running on the wheel.” These lines signal our cyclic nature and denote that perhaps we do not progress as much as we would think. The use of animal imagery here serves to further bring into view the human predilection to give in to animal instincts, despite their intelligence. These metaphors remind one forthwith of the fact that despite all technological advances, humanity has failed to transcend its baser instincts.
It is in the third verse that he addresses geopolitical conflicts, specifically the violence in Gaza, and turns all attention to endurance at war and human suffering. Here, social media-Instagram-is mentioned, a site that is supposed to bring everyone a little bit closer, yet ironically has the effect of heightening global awareness with widespread apathy, as people witness and ignore others’ suffering in tandem.
In all, “Present” is a striking lyrical piece using the theme of temporality against the future of humankind. By critiquing our own collective inability to evolve, tylerdurdan* invites listeners to turn and face their complicity in this stagnation, emphasizing the urgency of breaking the cycle of our shared past.
Hip Hop Eargasm - USA
Tylerdurdan* is redefining the boundaries of modern music with his new single "Present," released under Visory Records. A true trailblazer, he combines traditional songwriting with cutting-edge AI technology to create a track that confronts the complexities of human existence, history, and society’s flaws.
The production of "Present" is not just innovative in its sound but also in its creation process. The vocals, music, and overall production were generated using AI software, making him the first artist to sign with a traditional record label to release music created in this way. Despite the use of technology, the emotional weight of the song is palpable, showing that AI can still channel a very human sense of introspection and urgency.
"Present" is a poignant critique of humanity’s cyclical mistakes, from the failings of the past to the disillusionment of the future. The soundscape feels both futuristic and dystopian, with haunting synths and glitchy beats that match the heavy themes of the song. The production, while polished, has an edge that mirrors the song’s darker undertones, keeping you engaged in its complex narrative.
By blending his lyrical talents with the evolving capabilities of AI, tylerdurdan* is pushing the envelope of what music can be in the 21st century. "Present" serves as a reminder that innovation and emotional depth can coexist, creating a listening experience that is as thought-provoking as it is sonically unique.

tylerdurdan* explores the boundaries of art and AI in bold new single "Present"
tylerdurdan* explores the boundaries of music with his newest song "Present," a cutting-edge track launched through Visory Records. Integrating human ingenuity with advanced technology, "Present" delves deeply into language, technology, and social awareness, providing a distinctive auditory experience that pushes the boundaries of both intellect and soul.

"Present" is fundamentally a complex masterpiece with three layers, each one uncovering profound complexities. The song explores the intricacies of the English language, using verb tenses to symbolize the passage of time and the changing nature of humanity. However, this is not just a typical linguistic practice, tylerdurdan* enriches it by incorporating important topics such as the Palestinian genocide, the fast changes in society, and the unstoppable passage of time.

The groundbreaking use of generative AI is what distinguishes "Present" from others. By using precise command prompts, artificial intelligence acts as a co-composer, creating a musical environment that is both unexpected and groundbreaking. The music changes and grows dynamically as technology advances quickly. This combination of human and machine creativity gives a sneak peek into the music industry's future, as the lines between artist and technology become blurred, resulting in a completely fresh creation.

Meet: tylerdurdan*
Me: What was it that inspired you to pursue music with a more non-traditional approach?
tylerdurdan*: Not being a musician, I was able to break down this barrier thanks to generative AI. In June of this year, I started writing my first album, "Buffet," with a specific intent: to use music to communicate messages that I consider to be of fundamental importance. First and foremost, to shout to the world that it's time to stop the genocide in Palestine carried out by Israel for over a year.

Your mission is very honorable & grounded! Do you remember the first song you ever wrote before starting your career this year?
Yes. I've always written for fun and in 2009 I wrote a strange poem, which I called "controcorrente" (against the current). Then, I realized it could be the basis for rap lyrics and in 2012 I had a well-known producer from Naples, Mc Doppia C, sing it. It wasn't a success, but it was the first thing I revisited when I started using generative AI. Now you can listen to it on all platforms and it's dedicated to the activist Vittorio Arrigoni.

And, how would you describe the style & process for creating your music with this tool?
Generative AI prompts are improving week by week, and this has allowed me to evolve my music in just a few months. The starting genre is always rap, hip-hop culture is the one that represents me the most, especially for ethical and social issues. As a street photographer, I believe that rap and street photography are fundamentally the same thing, so choosing the rap style for me was natural. But I'm experimenting with other sounds.
Where does your stage name originate from? And has it ever changed?
My stage name is clearly derived from the character Tyler Durden in Fight Club. It's been my nickname for a long time because it exemplifies the duality we all live in, especially on social media.

That’s a dope origin story! Now, who are some artists or producers you’d like to work with collaboratively?
One of the future steps is the collaboration with real musicians, beatmakers, and producers, something I'm already doing. If I could choose, I would do a blues with Blind Willie McTell.

If you had the choice, what does the perfect studio environment look like to you?
Similar to the studio where Stairway to Heaven was recorded

Nice! That would be a dream honestly. Do you have other talents & hobbies outside of music that some may not know about you?
Photography is my first love, and many of my songs are inspired by my own photos. In fact, all my album covers feature my photography. On a more serious note, I'm a huge Napoli fan and winning the third Scudetto was amazing. If I have any talent, it's probably being able to sleep in. I'm practically undefeated at that.
What has been the most difficult part of your career so far?
I've been making music for only a few months, it's just a game for now. It was hard to accept the first criticisms, but they were right because the first tracks were crap. This pushes me every day to improve and write better.

Everyone starts somewhere & the goal is always to get better over time. And finally, are there any last words or things that you have for fans & our readers?
For 2025, the release of "Primo" is scheduled, my second album after "Buffet". It will consist of 15 tracks, which I've already written, and will continue to move towards the hybridization between man and machine. As always, I've written the lyrics myself, and now I'm collaborating with Max Bertoli, a producer from Parma who is taking care of the mastering and mixing of all the tracks, a fantastic job. There are also two tracks created in collaboration with real musicians, a jazz pianist, Maestro Raffaele Ranieri, and an Italian-French beatmaker, Ginola_. #FreePalestine

Interview
1. What inspired you to combine lyrics written by you with music generated by artificial intelligence?
Using generative AI to create music has been a necessity for me. I'm neither a musician nor a singer, but I’ve been writing lyrics professionally for 20 years, so this became an opportunity: when I discovered generative AI software that could create music based on text, I thought this might be the right moment to express what I had to say. First and foremost, the need to denounce the genocide that Israel, backed by the USA and with the complicity of governments worldwide, is committing in Palestine and Lebanon.
2. What motivated you to write it?
As I mentioned before, my primary motivation comes from the genocide in Palestine; as a human being and pacifist, I cannot accept this horror without taking action. The first song I wrote in 2008, Controcorrente, alreadInterview y contained a reference to Palestine, devastated by 70 years of war: “to that strip of land that separates life from the most atrocious death at the hands of an enemy.” This urgency led me to write Presente and Present in English, to once again scream the need to stop the horror in the Middle East.
3. What was your process to create the sound of the song?
Usually, it all starts with an image. I work in street photography, and I find a strong connection between my photos and the lyrics I'm writing. I write verses inspired by an image that struck me, and then I start working on the prompt that will allow me to create the song with SUNO, the generative AI software I use. After that, I go through at least 100 iterations before reaching the final form of the song.
4. What challenges did you face and how did you overcome them?
For now, the biggest challenge is convincing myself to write music and songs, having never done it before in my life. It’s a significant personal journey I’m undertaking. The music around us is filled with banal words and sounds, but I intend to create something entirely different. People tell me to leave it to the “real” musicians, but I have no intention of stopping for now. As long as I have something to say and the desire to say it, I’ll be here.
5. What do you hope people feel or think when listening to "Present"?
I hope people allow themselves to be carried away by the song's delicate mood, by the harmonies and melodic sounds, and then focus on the song’s meaning. I put a lot of effort into ensuring the message couldn’t be misunderstood, using words as clear as possible, avoiding metaphorical tangents, complex terms, or intricate alliterations. Present is a song of peace and should be understood as such—a contemporary anthem for peace, with the awareness that our mistakes, the ones we’re making now, are the same as those of the past. This doesn’t make us much different from well-dressed apes, evolved animals, but not by much.
6. What are your next steps as an artist?
I'm planning numerous collaborations with real artists and a producer, Max Bertoli, to create increasingly hybrid sounds. The next album, set for release in 2025, will be called Primo and will ideally continue the concept of my first album, Buffet. It's like an allegorical meal where tylerdurdan* says everything he has to say, with no holds barred. I hope it satisfies, though I already have Secondo in mind, an album made up of pure electronic music. The meal is long; there’s still time until Dolce.
7. Is there anything in particular that you would like to leave as a message in your songs?
As I’ve said before, my songs carry a message of peace, but also of rebellion, a challenge to conformism and capitalism. It’s a stubborn and opposing stance, as Fabrizio de André might have put it. Times are what they are; people prefer to listen to lighthearted music, singing about “Sex and Samba,” and ignore the horror surrounding us. I’m the one waking you up from your enchanted dream. The world is a terrible place—can we do something to make it better?
